Nehalennia or Elen?
To the goddess Nehalennia,
on account of goods duly kept safe,
Marcus Secundinius Silvanus,
trader in pottery with Britain,
fulfilled his vow willingly and deservedly.
From an inscription on a votive altar to Nehalennia
The origins of the Goddess Elen (Sometimes known as Elen of the Ways or Elen of the Hosts) are shrouded in mystery and intrigue.
Goddess Workshop
In this unique one day workshop, we will explain the silver threads of Elen's beginning culminating in the creation of a ceremony in sacred space for Her.
We will learn about Elen’s nature as guide, visionary, dream oracle, walker-between-the-worlds and sovereign Goddess of the Isle of Brigit-Ana.
It is true to say that not much is know about the Goddess Elen; she appears to us now through the mists of time. Yet if we look carefully, we can see tantalising glimpses of Her true nature.
Some say that Elen is an ancient horned Goddess who walks the area around modern day St Pancreas in London; others say that She is a Welsh Goddess who watches over the pathways of the British Isles.
There may be some truth in that she has been conflated with the historical St Helen. In fact there are more than one ‘St Helens’ and again we need to tease fact from rumour.
Nehalennia is another very likely source of many of the Elen stories. She is a Goddess worshipped by the Romans in the Low Countries, typically in the Netherlands. Several shrines devoted to Her have been found. I believe that she was once worshipped in the British Isles too.
I believe that Elen is all of these women and more.
Join us on this unique one day workshop where we will explore all the strands of Elen’s myth. As a focal point for the day, we will create a special altar dedicated to Elen and Her many facets. We will journey to otherworld lands in meditation and we will learn how to connect and commune with Her.
The cost for this one day workshop is £35. Pplease bring a packed lunch.
The day runs from 10am to 4pm with breaks for refreshments and lunch.
You may find a journal is useful to record your experiences. If you wish, bring sacred items for the altar (these will be returned to you).
A £10, non-refundable deposit secures your place. To book, please contact Vicky on 07792 279789 or email her on info@sacred-isle.co.uk
